Vanessa delivered a well-received presentation titled ‘Potential…Not Profit: Financial Potential and Opportunity Cost,’ in which she introduced the concept of Agency Financial Potential and why simply focusing on profitability is a legacy mindset keeping agency owners from true prosperity. She illustrated how Opportunity Cost is the true enemy, a critical metric ignored by agencies at their own peril, and walked the audience through the operational areas they should focus on for maximum impact, sharing practical next steps for reclaiming their agency’s Financial Potential.
About Vanessa Vollum Edwards
Hailing from Portland, OR, Vanessa graduated from university with a degree in Philosophy. An amateur helicopter and fixed wing pilot since age sixteen, she began her first career as a pilot for LifeFlight. Upon completing her MBA, Vanessa was recruited by a fellow classmate into becoming the CFO/COO for a digital agency experiencing rapid growth. She was tasked with finding a “middle way” that balanced the needs of finance/accounting with those of creative, culture and the client. It was during this period that she first deployed Workamajig, with an emphasis on best practices, workflows and obtaining actionable data, tripling agency profit. The agency was acquired in 2010.
Over the decade, Vanessa has built a strategic consultancy focused on empowering agency principals, tackling complex organizational change and deploying integrated (accounting & project management) systems.
